Plus Size Coats – Heading For Fall

Plus Size Coats — By admin on September 11, 2009 at 7:55 am

It’s time to start thinking about plus size coats although the weather is still warm here in New York, Labor Day has passed and Fall is on it’s way. It’s worth investing in a good quality coat or jacket, one that can be used for a number of years.

As a plus size woman it is important that your coat or jacket should fit and flatter your shape, not hide your body, this will only add inches overall. Plus size outerwear is available in many styles, shapes and colors. From classic styles such as the trench coat and fitted short jacket to brightly colored peacoats and biker style leather jackets.

There are many different women’s plus size coats and jackets to choose from. Long A line coats or jackets that flare out from the waist are great if you are a classic pear shape and have wider hips or a curvy behind, as they allow for extra room around these areas. If you are top heavy and have a large bust then avoid double breasted styles as these will add unnecessary bulk to that area. Instead choose single breasted coats with a tapered v neckline and avoid wide collars and lapels. To draw attention to your waist and to create an hourglass shape choose a trench coat and use the belt to cinch in your waist.

When it comes to color the choice is almost endless, take into account the reason you are buying a new plus size coat. If it is for both work and social occasions, then a neutral color such as black, brown or gray may be more appropriate. When teamed with the right accessories your coat can take you from day to evening. If the coat is to be for casual wear or you like to make a statement then choose a color which is bold. Yellow, purple and grape feature strongly as Fall trends this year.
