Plus Size Clothing – Trends For Fall 2010

So let’s continue taking a look at plus size clothing and fashion trends for Fall this year. Yesterday we looked at animal print, today we are looking at another bold trend, but one that has a real feminine touch and more than a nod to the 1950s and 1960s. Many designers went retro on the catwalks, and the ‘look’ was definitely “mad Men’ inspired, if you’ve seen the TV show, you’ll know exactly what I mean. But ‘How can a plus size woman pull off that look?’ I hear you cry! Well, it’s all about dressing your curves in a way that accentuates but also flatters, and you know that you own some great plus size clothing that does that, right? Think pencil skirts, fitted jackets, scoop neck blouses, and team with cute retro style handbags and silk scarves tied at the neck, maybe even add a pair of leather or suede gloves.

Nothing looks more sophisticated and glamorous than a woman who really knows how to pull an outfit together. I know I have mentioned before about building a basic wardrobe but it really is the way to go, and you can keep up with new trends by adding accessories. So take your basic pieces, a fitted jacket, and a pencil skirt, or a fuller skirt. Nip the jacket in at the waist with a skinny belt, add gloves and kitten heels and away you go. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last year you will know that leather is a huge story for outerwear this Fall and Winter. Once upon a time every woman about town had an evening coat. But these days how easy is it to find plus size evening coats. Not as easy as you would think. I myself had this difficulty last year, when I was invited to attend a formal ball on a cold New York winter evening. At the time I just had to use my trusty long black wool coat and added a velvet scarf for a little panache. I felt a little like Calamity Jane in the scene where she arrives at the dance in an old army coat to reveal her fabulous frock underneath. My husband assures me that my coat did look elegant enough but, boy, do I wish I’d had a little more time to peruse the plus size evening coats that are available out there!

Plus Size Winter Coats – Military Style

Two years on and military style coats and jackets are still bang on trend. This style is perfect for plus size winter coats. Because they are fitted around your upper body they do not add bulk around this area, look out for single breasted styles rather than double breasted if you are ‘top heavy’ or petite. Buttons and tapering, detailed pockets all add interest, add a colorful scarf or large bag, you don’t need to overdo accessories as these coats speak for themselves.
