Plus Size Evening Wear

December 2nd, 2008

Francesca Empire-Waist Dress with Jeweled Belt In Black

Oh wow, I am in love with this dress from Igigi. Perfect plus size evening wear. The fit is just so flattering. Not only will it take me right through family gatherings and formal socials this festive season, but I also think I will be able to dress it down, for lunch dates with the girls and maybe even work meetings too.

As you can see it looks fabulous with heels, glitzy clutch, shrug/wrap so is perfect for my formal Christmas do’s. But I think I may also wear it on the annual family gathering on Christmas Eve, a little less formal, but looking great with black, white and red accesories. I love a little retro 50’s styling.

For lunch with the girls, I will team it with my wide fitting calf boots, and a fitted jacket and pashmina. Did I mention how versatile this dress is!

Right let’s get down to the nitty gritty, the wide sweetheart neckline is so flattering and can be worn on or off the shoulder, sweet or sexy. The material has a good heavy drape which skims over the lumps and bumps that I want to hide, whilst the empire waist brings me in at the narrowest part of my body, creating curves. The beaded belt really rocks and I am going to use it on some of my other dresses too. The dress is also lined so no embarrasing see through moments! I also love the fact that it has 3/4 sleeves as I hate having my upper arms on show, as I know many women of all shapes and sizes do.

So go check out this and other fabulous plus size dresses at Igigi right now.

Plus Size Coats

November 14th, 2008

Now’s the time to start thinking of plus size coats and jackets. Your winter coat is the most important item of your winter closet therefore there are some points you need to consider before purchasing a plus size coat or jacket.
If you can spend a lot on your winter coat, then think of it as an investment. In this case go for quality fabrics such as 100% wool and cashmere. Remember to look out for detailing, such as buttons, ruffles and belts. And check that seams and hems finished off well and are not uneven.

If you are choosing an expensive coat that will last you a few years, then go for traditional colors such as black, grey, brown. You can update your look each winter with the addition of accessories such as gloves, hats and scarves in the current season trend colors. You could also add a fabric corsage.

This of course does not mean that you should not buy a colored coat if you wish to, we all have our own tastes and styles. Reds, purples, plaids are all popular at the moment.

Think about your shape when choosing a coat. Tailored and fitted coats and jackets are flattering and slimming on a larger frame. If you have a large bust then opt for a single breasted style.

Plus Size Sexy Costumes

So have you got your costume for Halloween yet? It’s not long until the witching hour is upon us. I thought the plus size sexy costumes above were lots of fun and a little bit different to the usual Leg Avenue type costumes. Personally I love dressing up and this year my costume for Halloween clubbing is Betty Boop, but everywhere seems to now be sold out of those costumes, which is a shame. My equally curvy friend is going as Snow White, yes, fairytale costumes are available in plus sizes, so if you have always wanted to dress up as a princess now’s your chance.

So what other sexy costumes are available in plus size for women? Perhaps you want to dress up in the bedroom as well as for Halloween, naughty nurses, sexy cops, french maids, and much more are available at Hips and Curves in sizes up to 3X. And you can find many more plus size costumes at Yandy Sexy Costumes

Check out the rest of these online costume sites, and find a huge variety of plus size costumes. Order now to receive them before this Friday. Have a fabulous Halloween!

Women’s Plus Sizes

October 14th, 2008

It may have been brought to your attention recently that clothing in women’s plus sizes has improved vastly.  There is so much more choice these days and no longer do you have to pick from a limited range of clothing, namely stretch pants and baggy tops.  Designers are coming up with all sorts of trendy styles affording women who fall into the size 12 and over category, the luxury of being able to be dedicated followers of fashion.  There are over thirty million such women in the United States alone, so why shouldn’t they have clothes made from the best materials and styled in the latest designs?

Due to the fact that so many department stores are still a little behind the times as far as their women’s size plus clothing range goes, the majority of the more amply proportioned women and teenage girls are looking to the Internet to do their clothes shopping.  You will be delighted to know there are several websites catering specifically for the fuller figure and stocking a wide selection of appropriate clothing in day wear, night wear and swimwear.

Designers focus on the way the clothes will look and how they will fit the fuller frame when they create new designs.  Fabrics and styles which work well to hide certain areas such and the tummy and the top of the arms, and others to draw attention to the waistline and to minimize the bust area are used in the manufacture of these plus sized garments.  Even the hemline of the piece of clothing remains at the same level all around the item, no matter where you are carrying the excess weight.  This particular attention to detail makes it clear that there is a distinct difference between designing, choosing and purchasing plus size wear compared to the clothes for smaller sized females.

When selecting your garments, it is essential that you think about the areas of your body you wish to cover up or to emphasize.  For instance, when choosing a jacket, if you have big hips you should opt for a long line design or if you wish to look curvy go for a fitted at the waistline jacket with a good cut.  Necklines can determine the overall look too and to highlight the chest area a curved or sweetheart shaped neckline is best.  As an alternative pick a blouse with darts and a v neck.  Both of these designs look so much better than the loose-fitting tunic style tops of years gone by.

Plus Size Wear - It’s all in the detail.

October 13th, 2008

Let’s keep looking at ways that you can buy plus size wear that is right on trend and also has those designer touches. One of the big fashion trends right now is detail in styling, especially embellishments such as large beads and sequin trim around the neckline. Not only does this detail at the neckline lead the eye up to the face but it draws attention away from those areas we are not so happy with. And no need to wear a lot of jewelry, afterall you do not want to distract from the detailing. Take a look at this Vera Wang Tunic Top and the Sheri Bodell top for example. Both cost over $300. So how can you get the designer look for less?

The tops and tunics that are shown below are available in up to sizes 32W and are perfect for occasion wear when worn with black wide leg or bootcut pants, or maybe just for dressing up your favorite pair of jeans. And they all have the fabulous embellishment detail at the neckline.

Womens Size Plus - Get a designer look

October 13th, 2008

So we don’t all have the luxury of being able to purchase plus size designer clothes, but there are ways that you can achieve a women’s size plus designer look, and all it takes is a little thought and time. The first thing to do is to take a look at two clothing trends for this Fall/Winter.

Quirky - For your inspiration with this look, think Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. Carrie’s use of quirky accessories really makes her outfits look individual.
The easiest way to copy her look is to add a fabric flower corsage to a jacket lapel, a sweater or knit cardigan or a clutch. The clutch bag should be over sized, which is great for plus size women as the bigger the clutch the smaller you will look, it’s all about proportion. Using a corsage in this way means that you can be sure that no one will be wearing the same outfit as you.

Think about adding a piece statement jewelry, the bigger the beads the better, again it’s all about proportion. Choosing a new necklace, bracelet or costume ring, can really update an outfit. It shows that you have thought about your overall look. Animal and african inpired jewelry and large colorful cocktail rings are right on trend at the moment. Take a look at Emitations.com

Gothic - For this designer look you need to think about fabrics and trim, as well as color. Plus size women often have a tendency to stick to black, we are all under the impression that it makes us look slimmer, however, just because I’m talking about gothic doesn’t mean you have to stick to black. Silver gray, pewter, deep purple and burgundy reds are other colors you should think about. Stitching a small piece of metallic or black lace trim, under a simple vest or sweater top can add a touch of indivduality to an outfit. You could perhaps add a piece of applique, or a vintage style brooch. Even the buttons on a shirt can easily be changed. Remember it is all in the detail. A designer piece of clothing would never have plain buttons. Another big designer trend at the moment is gothic costume jewelry, perfect for this time of year, choose from vintage style brooches to spider and skull themed jewelry.

Plus Size Halloween Costumes

October 10th, 2008

Let’s take a break from work and look at some fun Plus Size Halloween Costumes.
I love dressing up to join in the spooky festivities and you may be surprised to learn that there are a whole wealth of costumes available for larger size men and women. Below you will see some examples of women’s size plus costumes. It would appear that fairytale characters are particularly popular this year, such as Red Riding Hood and Snow White, although pirate, nun and vampiress costumes continue to be in great demand.

When choosing a plus size costume, think about the areas of your body that you are happy to show and those that you wish to cover up. It is important that you feel happy and confident in your costume if you are to enjoy yourself. Many plus size costumes have full length sleeves, many women do not like their upper arms on show. To hide your tummy choose a style which has an empire waistline that falls from under the bust. For example many renaissance style costumes have this type of fit.

If you do not like to show your legs, choose longer length costume or instead of wearing stockings or pantyhose, wear thick opaque tights or leggings instead.

Many people do not like to wear a full costume but you can enter into the Halloween spirit by wearing a wig or a pair of horns, wear some fun spooky costume jewellery, or you could just wear a cloak or a set of wings.

Take a look below for some fantastic plus size Halloween costumes and accessories.
